Nutrition and Wellness Committee Celebrate DeKalb's Farm to School Day - January 19th !
The December Farm to School Day was a great success – thanks to students, staff,
and parents! Almost all students were recognized for eating the broccoli.
To
continue to build upon this success, the Nutrition and Wellness Committee will promote
this month’s DeKalb Farm to School Day onThursday, January 19th and the item will be locally grown Broccoli. Committee members will be present in the
cafeteria encouraging students to try the item of the month on that day. The committee will also provide interesting
facts about the item during the morning announcements the week before. (FYI: Did you know that broccoli is rich in
calcium, foliate, potassium, vitamin C, and vitamin A?)In addition, some of the class garden
beds have broccoli growing which will be harvested. If your student has a lunch account already
set up, please encourage them to try the broccoli on this day. If your child brings lunch from home, you can
pack broccoli on this day for him or her to eat or send 75 cents with them to
purchase as an a la carte item. Pictures
of the last two monthly events have been posted on the bulletin board in the
main hallway outside of Mrs. Neely’s office.
If you you have questions or would like to volunteer to help with the monthly event, please contact Margaret West at mrh0@cdc.gov.
